How to reduce your substantial risk of liability and financial losses due to computer security breaches, written by authorities with proven expertise.
No matter what your role in government – whether small town, city, county, state – if your department handles data, you’re at serious risk for security breaches and resultant liability. Damage can be done by disgruntled employees as well as hackers, and even damage done from negligence can result in catastrophic lawsuits and settlement costs.
According to a presentation given recently by the GAO, research by the Computer Security Institute (CSI) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) shows 80% of survey participants have suffered financial losses due to computer breaches. 223 respondents (less than half the survey) reported more than $456 million in aggregate losses.
Why leave yourself at risk? State & Local Government Information Security gives you a way to quickly and easily implement a comprehensive, written information security program.
Specifically, this book will help managers and officers to:
- Identify and assess the risks that may threaten government information
- Include a written plan that contains policies and procedures to manage and control risks
- Schedule for adjusting the written plan on a continuing basis to account for changes in technology, the sensitivity of government information, and internal or external threats to information security
