Almost every institution has room for improvement in its collections process. Whether you’re setting up an in-house department or you want to improve your current process to avoid problems and increase recoveries, you need a blueprint for an effective, efficient collections organization.
This manual gives you everything you need to make your collections process as productive and safe as possible. 5 sections cover everything you need for a more effective collections process and give you specifics to address every part of the collections process.
- Comprehensive, hands-on guidance for running an effective collections operation that integrates the latest best practices, legal considerations, and regulatory issues.
- Sample collections letters, policies, procedures, and questionnaires that have been proven to work in other institutions.
- Timely, Periodic Updates to keep you current with the ongoing changes in this high-risk area – and help you minimize your risks and maximize your recoveries.
- Pre-collection considerations: tools, techniques, and sample procedures you can use at the loan application stage to minimize loss and make the collection process more efficient.
- Collection techniques: learn how to identify problem loans and collect on accounts as early as possible. A questionnaire helps you spot and address problems, and proven strategies, sample letters, call techniques, and skip tracing techniques help you maximize collections.
- Dealing with mass layoffs and bankruptcy: useful tools, including forms, checklists, and questionnaires, help you reduce your losses.
- Methods of recovery: practical advice on when and how to use different proven methods, including transforming charge-offs into paying accounts, selecting a collection agency and collection attorney, avoiding problem outside resources, workouts and settlements, auto repossession procedures, foreclosure, and foreclosure alternatives.
- Legal and regulatory issues: how to use the legal process to collect debts, relevant federal laws, and an overview of relevant state laws, including a chart of state laws and regulations.
