An article from The Banking Law Journal has been awarded the prestigious Burton Award for excellence in legal writing.

A.S. Pratt and the entire Banking Law Journal staff congratulates Heath Tarbert and Michael Aiello of Weil, Gotshal & Manges, who were chosen to receive the 2011 Burton Award for Legal Achievement, which honors excellence in legal writing. Mr. Tarbert and Mr. Aiello’s winning submission, “Bank M&A in the Wake of Dodd-Frank,” was published in the November/December 2010 issue of The Banking Law Journal. 

Excerpt from Bank M&A in the Wake of Dodd-Frank:

While Dodd-Frank’s various provisions governing M&A transactions are intended to make deals more difficult, the Act may nonetheless spur substantial consolidation. Overall, the Act’s impact on the banking industry will be profound, and when combined with the harsh economic conditions still lingering from the financial crisis, will likely produce a wave of M&A transactions reminiscent of those following the passage of Garn-St. Germain, Riegle-Neal, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley….
